Information about the auto shredder

The auto shredding is the operation when a Hammermill acts like a big tree chipper through grinding all the materials that are inserted in it to the size of a fist piece each. The auto crusher will make a mixture of non-ferrous metal like alloys of aluminum and copper, ferrous metal, shredder waste. It also has the name of automotive shredder residue, and its acronym is (ASR) and it has rubber, fiber, glass, automotive liquids, dirt, and plastics. This auto shredder is distinguished by two, either light fraction or dust. ''Car-fluff'' is what these residual materials are sometimes called.

The auto shredder can contain random substances like cadmium, lead, and PCB, which lead to the classification by some countries for the shredder as hazardous to use, and issued some legislative controls.

Info about recycling, using the auto shredder

It is predicted each year In Europe union that approximately 3 mil tons of auto shredder residue are created. On the other hand, half of these waste that has textiles, plastics and rubber can be made into other fuels or be recycled, what remains shall be thrown into the land-filled. Although, there is a European Draft law in 2000 tells that in 2015 only 5% can be thrown into landfill sites.

Recycling strategies and technics:

The auto crusher waste has 30% both organic matter and compounds that are inorganic such as Zinc, Quartz, Anhydrite, Hematite, and Zinc. Some methods for recycling are:

  • Using cement through a transformation to an aggregate later when the thermal treatment is continued by the chemical therapy.

  • The Auto plastic residue is converted to synthetic oil.

  • The recycled from thermoplastic materials can be used for agriculture and construction sectors.

  • Use of gasification or pyrolysis, or other thermo-chemical processes.
