Things You Need to Know About Single Shaft Shredder

The industries today are employing various forms of industrial shredders in the form of Single Shaft Shredders to minimize their waste reduction. Depending on the type of waste created, different single shaft shredders which vary in size and functioning, are used to fulfill the following purposes:

  • Waste reduction including the hazardous waste like the nuclear and medical waste

  • Saving the energy and burden on the natural resources of the Earth

  • Enables reusability of the natural resources

  • Increased productivity

The industries nowadays, employ various techniques to accomplish the process of shredding which might be:

  • Shearing

  • Tearing

  • Fracturing

The single shaft shredders can be used to shred different types of materials in an industry.  Different materials have their distinct physical and chemical characteristics according to which they are decomposed and disintegrated. These variations can be:

  • Ductile materials: These are very rigid materials and are not easily fractured, they can be torn into long strips. Shearing is the best technique to reduce them to ensure the smaller size of particles. Examples of such materials are rubber, cloth, soft plastics, cardboard, paper and soft metals.

  • Friable materials: In contrast to the ductile materials, these can be easily fractured and broken into smaller particles easily. Some of the examples of these materials are glass, stone, hard plastics, wooden materials and cast metals.

There are many types of industrial shredder which are used depending on the type of waste that is to be reduced. Some of them are:

  • Uni-shear: Also known as the Single Shaft Shredder, these have medium speed and are used for disintegrating wood, paper, brittle materials and hard plastics.

  • Dual-shear: These are dual shaft shredders and have low speed and high torque to reduce materials like metals, soft plastics and tires.

  • Quad Shredders: These are four-shaft shredders and have low speed and high torque used for applications such as tires, e-scraps and fuel production.
